AROUND AUSTRALIA

Decided after a day of chores we deserved a day of quiet contemplation at the beach. After a run on the beach (my first in months) we enjoyed a lovely coffee & breaky in the van on the beach. We finally extended our new awning and positioned the van to take in the views of the water and the shade from the awning to our best advantage. Steve took Midget and BJ out for a wearing out session and returned to the van where I was deeply engrossed in the book I’d borrowed off Terry & Ange; Beaches, Bush Roads & Bull Ants, by Ian Hamilton. It’s a couple’s story of their adventures travelling around Australia in a motorhome. Its quite interesting and its interspersed with lots of great recipes they created along the way to enjoy the many interesting things they caught and bought along the road. They were doing much like us, free camping as much as possible and meeting interesting people along the way. So got stuck into lounging back on the comfortable lounge and enjoying the odd cocktail during the day!
Our new drink: Extra Dry Vermouth, bitters, lime, and lemonade. Its called Beach Bum. Enjoy!
Our relaxation came to an abrupt end when a large procession of vehicles proceeded to join our quiet beachside sojourn, including a huge half aeroplane/half boat and other strange contraptions. Our new neighbour came over for a chat and said he was the boat wrangler for the production of a kids drama called Stormworld (see http://www.fti.asn.au/news/483 for all the info). They had been filming down in Wanneroo, the baddies HQ shots and were now filming some water stuff here in Broome, further round the rough cliffs of Gantheaume Point. The afternoon saw a steady stream of visitors in and out, and when the director arrived it all went into overdrive. On his return, they set up a nice catering tent and fed all and sundry. The most interesting part was watching the double takes by all the late afternoon traffic. People stopping to take photos and ask what it was and just the funny looks. I guess you had to be there!
